The Sandpit Nursery : Out of School

Sandpit Nursery Out of School Centre

Our Out of School Centre caters for children from 3 to 12 years and is divided into three main areas:

Breakfast Club:

This operates from 8am until school time. Children can play on the various equipment before breakfast. Breakfast is served between 8.15 and 8.30 am. After breakfast the children are escorted to their school in time for school start times.

After School Club:

This operates from the school closing time until 6pm. Children are met by a familiar member of staff at a designated point in school and escorted back to The Sandpit Nursery. A cooked meal is provided at 4pm and then the children are free to play on whatever they would like in the club.

Holiday Club:

This is open from 8 am – 6 pm whenever schools are closed. This includes set holiday days, INSET days and polling days.

What we do in the Out of School Centre

Due to the fact that this area is open when schools are closed we make the activities available as child led as possible. This means that we provide ideas for things to do around a topic but the children choose what they would like to play with. The centre has a play station and computer with internet access (only used in the presence of an adult). These areas prove very popular.

Other Areas Include:

  1. Creative area which has an activity provided each session.
  2. Role play area with dressing up clothes to encourage their imaginative play.
  3. Games. We have a large supply of board games and books for quieter times. There is also a giant Connect Four game and pool table. This is quite popular with parents as well as children!
  4. Out door activities. Children are encouraged to take part in outdoor activities such as ball games, group games and general running around.
  5. Trips. During the holidays staff organise a trip out at least once per holiday. Staff try to make these as inexpensive as possible by going to local facilities such as local parks, the Metrodome soft play, Oakwell and Shaw Lane Cricket club. We do not believe that parents should be asked to pay for expensive trips as well as child care.

The aim of the club is to have fun with our friends outside school in a safe, stimulating environment with plenty of things to choose from. We want to keep children active and stimulated during the holidays without being an extension of school. We want children to be free to choose, express themselves and confident to try new things.

Staff have regular meetings with the children to discuss what they would like to do in the club.

We pride ourselves in the knowledge that our out of school centre is a happy place where children enjoy themselves. It’s well worth a look.
